Road to Happiness

I can feel the sunlight beating down through the t-shirt over my eyes. Tropical breezes float through the air, warm sand sifts through my fingers, melted chocolate trail mix coats my lips and parts of my face. The blue water spills onto the shore and pulls back again into the depths of the coral sea caves. Time doesn't exist.
With some tips from Dad, Steve and I saw at least three different beaches in Isabela and ate the best Mofungo Puerto Rico had to offer. After a few days in Isabela we headed down into Rincon, about forty-five minutes south and west of Isabela. 413 Road to Happiness found us a nice place to stay and yet another wonderful beach. The Mowatt-Larsons met us at Steps beach for snorkeling, and later again at a restaurant in the center of town. A Rappahannock get together in Puerto Rico!
The last day was probably the best, Steve and I got up early and headed out once more for "Shags" beach in Isabela. We, or at least Steve, dove down into the beautiful deep sea caves amid the blue fish and sea erchins. We laid out in the sun until we couldn't anymore and then we got back into the car and drove to the rainforest. Even driving in Puerto Rico is vacation, with the windows down and the stereo blasting. After passing through the small town of Palmer we officially entered the rainforest and sped up the winding road to the trail head that would guide us to the top of Puerto Rico. The air was thick and warm, everything lived, everything breathed, everything was soaking wet. The trail was easy, to say the least, and at the top, you might as well of been at the bottom, because you couldn't see anything. We were literally in a cloud, we couldn't even see the tree tops ten feet below. We ran back down the trail and called Jesse on our way to San Juan to find us a hotel. The final hours in Puerto Rico Steve and I spent eating pineapple pizza on the beach with the San Juan skyline lit up in the background. I love Puerto Rico.
Thanks Steve, Mom, and UB for the wonderful trip to Puerto Rico!
